StarBreak: Alpha 18

Good afternoon Testers,

We're almost done with back-end production upgrades which means more visible changes will be coming over the next few weeks. Here are today's patch notes:

  • Wildfire
    • Fixed blast FXs
    • Fixed blast prices
  • Ironclad
    • Fixed issue with some projectile effects penetrating the shield when the initial bullet was blocked
  • Toaster
    • Fixed crash bug with teleportation
  • Ship Graveyard
    • Loaders' cargo is now properly destroyed when the Loaders are defeated
    • Barrels are more intuitive to use and should bounce
    • Boss
      • Unfired turret bullets are destroyed when the turret is defeated
      • Z-order fixes
  • Eschaton Station
    • Add permanent portal to Ship Graveyard
  • Lag should be reduced
  • Other minor bug fixes and art updates

Here are today's patch notes:

  • Wildfire
    • Modified starting blast
    • Upgraded blasts now drop as loot
    • Fixed missing art on incendiary swarm clusters
    • Increased size of bullet hitboxes
  • Underground Military Base
    • Added new mortar art to show differences in damage dealing ability and normalized mortar damage
    • Reduced explosion damage of rocketeer missiles slightly
    • MidBoss
      • MidBoss will shake for a brief period before it breaks apart
        • MidBoss is invulnerable during this telegraph
        • MidBoss should do no damage during this telegraph
  • Ship Graveyard
    • DoT has been removed from all attacks
  • Improved item tooltips
  • Other minor bug fixes and art updates

Here are today's patch notes:

  • Toaster
    • New art
  • Fabricator
    • Fixed an issue causing de-syncs with the server
  • Wildfire
    • New bomb jump animation
  • New projectile art
    • Many zones have new projectile art to help make them more visible
  • Cave
    • Darter spawners should no longer create "ghost" darters
    • Minimum settings background improved
  • Underground Military Base
    • Boss
      • Z-order fixes should prevent bullets from passing behind the boss
    • MidBoss
      • Delay between time Triangle Mode is formed and bombs are dropped as been reduced
    • Snipers should no longer create "ghost" drones
    • Teleport spawners should no longer create "ghost" spawns
  • Other minor bug fixes and art updates

Good afternoon Testers,

Here are today's patch notes:

  • Experiment: Loot dropped is now the same for each member that receives the loot
  • Toaster
    • Damage reduced slightly
    • Teleport special is cancelable
      • Dash Down will cancel any teleport
      • Dash Right, Left, or Up will recast teleport and cancel the previous throw
  • Fabricator
    • Add Trinity primary weapon
    • Add Mechanized Macron
    • Add Whispered Antiphon
  • Forest
    • Minimum settings background improved
  • Underground Military Base
    • MidBoss
      • No longer has a safe spot in Triangle Mode
      • More slowly accelerates to positions in Triangle Mode to better telegraph attacks
    • Boss
      • Slightly increase telegraph time on movement
      • Eye telegraph is set apart from hit effects
      • Reposition teleporters in the room
      • Now has 5 phases: 2 shielded and 3 unshielded
      • Phases will not end until a minimum amount of time has elapsed
      • HP per phase increased significantly
      • Bombs should no longer be dropped through the floor
      • Various z-order fixes
    • Fixed a bug that sometimes caused steam generators to generate objects without art
  • Add a progress bar to the loading screen
  • Low performance browsers (FireFox and IE) will warn about graphics performance set graphics to minimum
  • Browsers without Web Audio (IE) will warn about lack of sound and will attempt to ply any music or SFX
  • Fonts now work in IE
  • Other minor bug fixes and art updates

Good afternoon Testers,

Here are today's patch notes:

  • Wildfire
    • New Special: Bomb jump. Double tapping in any direction (up, down, left, or right) will deploy a small, short-lived damage field and push the Wildfire in the opposite direction.
  • Duskwing
    • Successful dive kicks will reset the Duskwing's ability to do air dashes and air jumps
  • Fabricator
    • New Special: Macron. The Fabricator can now deploy the Macron.
  • Toaster Revamp:
    • Primary: Increased kick range and damage. Primary can cancel animation of itself allowing for quick hitting combinations. The third hit in a combo string will do substantially more damage and push the Toaster away from the target. Hitting a target while the Toaster is in the air will impart a period of zero-gravity with no air control (the Toaster will briefly float in the air)
    • Secondary: Provides the Toaster with a brief period of invulnerability, doing damage to anything it touches
    • Special: Double tap to throw a clone in that direction. Upon clone landing, Toaster will teleport to that location.
    • Items: Base items only
  • Cave
    • King Native blocks for a shorter period of time and retaliates with a PBAoE when the block finishes
    • Healing pools will deactivate for a player once that player leaves the floor
    • Cave boss can only take a maximum amount of damage each time it attacks
    • Teen Worm
      • Spray attack animation timings have been fixed
      • Shell portion will block attacks and do damage if touched
    • Fixed map part that required jumping into next door
  • Underground Military Base
    • Boss
      • Initial attack delay reduced considerably
      • Much more resilient to damage before it begins to attack
      • Slightly increase the amount of telegraph time before the boss moves after being revealed
      • HP has been broken into phases and damage done in one phase should not bleed into subsequent phases
  • Graveyard
    • Barrels will now lean in the direction in which they will roll
    • Energy DoTs should no longer harm players not afflicted with the DoT
    • Boss
      • Boss includes more climbable terrain
      • Fixed issue with players being able to hover in the air above the boss
      • Boss should not descend as far, making it less likely that enemies on the lowest ledge will do touch damage to players on the floor
      • Bullets, portals, and spawned enemies should now properly move with the boss
      • Turrets will not instantly track player movement
      • Turrets will not change facing while telegraphing their attack
      • Turret bullets are generally more accurate
      • Turret bullets will not damage players before they are fired
      • Crates can now only be accessed from on top of the boss with sufficient jumping capability
      • z-order fixes for various assets
  • Other minor bug fixes and art updates

Good afternoon Testers,

Here are today's patch notes:

  • New Shell: Fabricator
    • Primary: Shoots projectiles to a distance controlled by how long the primary button is held up to a max distance, these projectiles create a damage field that will damage anything that touches the field for a period of time
    • Secondary: Summons a drone that will attack targets for you. These drones have hp and if not killed can be reclaimed
    • Special: Still in the works
    • Items: Armor, boots, and improved versions of primary and secondary
  • Cave
    • Cave Boss telegraphs his mouth attack with a screen shake
    • Fixed issue that caused the claw holes to cause damage to players after death
    • Fixed issue that caused the claw holes to register hits after death
    • Change acceleration curves of claws to provide better telegraphing
  • Underground Military Base
    • Once the boss has been revealed, he will look in the direction he is about to move in as a telegraph
    • Mortars fired by mortar towers were doing too much damage and have been reduced
  • Graveyard
    • Loaders should now honor ledges
    • Boss Encounter added
    • Energy Mid-boss now destroys emitted clones on death
  • "Boots" removed from the name of the boots (to make names a little more consistent)
  • UI
    • Icons added to HUD player status display, numbers briefly flash when they increase
    • New title screen and dialog buttons
    • Improved look of dialogs and forms
    • Get rid of old font completely
  • Capture now sets resolution to 1368x768, HUD can be toggled with F7
  • Other minor bug fixes and art updates

Here are today's patch notes:

  • Ironclad
    • Fixed a bug that caused certain projectiles to create their secondary effects even when properly blocked by the Ironclad
  • Capture Mode to capture gameplay footage for trailer purposes (hit 'C')
  • UI dialogs/forms updated with actual art, still work in progress
  • Fix crash when comparing to non-existent equipment
  • Chat box UI
    • Scroll chat text with PgUp and PgDn
  • Sound Mixer changes should allow more distinct sound effects to be played
  • Forest
    • Invisible shield will no longer harm player
  • Cave
    • Fixed an issue with King Natives getting stuck in some maps
    • Fixed an issue with King Natives using ground punches when he should be using screams
    • Cave Boss's third phase no longer has weak claws, and the mouth's attack speed is greatly increased
  • Underground Military Base
    • Mid-boss must be broken up a number of times before a larger piece breaks into the smallest pieces
  • Graveyard
    • Fixed an issue where wallers would not wait for their walls to be created before trying to find a place to take cover
    • Fixed an issue where walls created by wallers would not honor platforms and ledges

Good afternoon Testers,

Here are today's patch notes:

  • New Zone: The Ship Graveyard!
    • This zone uses a new kind of map which is more open, but can have a tendency to get players lost. We have tried to mitigate this to an extent with a "critical path" that can guide you to the next area, although do not forego the various exploration opportunities that this new map type can provide :).
    • Just a heads-up: this area is still largely a work-in-progress and has missing art and enemy behaviors. But enough of the zone is there and we thought you could explore the new content over the holidays. We will continue to address the zone in subsequent patches.
  • Home Update!
    • Players now a have new home area to call their own.
    • We will add more amenities to this area as we add additional content
  • New UI for most interactions
  • Toaster
    • Fix Toaster walk animations
  • Cave
    • Fixed an issue with some spore shooters being obscured by decorations
  • Underground Military Base
    • Mid-boss should no longer crash
    • Mid-boss should no longer enter a state in which the doors will not open
  • Other minor bug fixes and art updates

StarBreak: Alpha 10

Good afternoon Testers,

Here are today's patch notes:

  • New UI!
    • Most of the game's placeholder UI has been replaced
  • More SFX!
  • Ironclad
    • Fixed Ironclad doing a double attack on jump to ground attack
  • Cave
    • Boss now has three phases:
      • Claws attack asynchronously
      • Claws attack synchronously
      • Claws attack synchronously and the Mouth may attack at random intervals (but the claws will still retract as a telegraph)
    • Boss claws should be more difficult to destroy
    • Darter spawns from the Mouth are now capped at a maximum number
    • Claws spawn darters less frequently to start, but will spawn more frequently as the encounter continues and may start spawning more than one darter if sufficient time has passed
    • Fixed a bug that caused the mouth and claws to desynchronize
    • Fixed a bug that caused one darter hive the Boss room to spawn into the rocks, trapping the darter
  • Underground Military Base
    • The Boss has a large movement area that should allow the boss to reach the entire room
    • The Boss will no longer continue to teleport in minions after all of the players have been defeated
    • Mid-Boss now has multiple forms depending on the number of remaining pieces, each with their own attack (beware the Triangle-Man)
  • Other minor bug fixes and art updates

Good afternoon Testers,

Here are today's patch notes:

  • Music! (M to mute/unmute)
    • A basic music system has been implemented that allow us to play music for particular areas
    • We have added placeholder music to most areas of the game
  • Sound Effects!
    • A basic sound effect system has been implemented
    • We have added placeholder sound effects for some aspects of the game, like picking up EC, health, ammo, certain attacks, actions, dying, etc.
  • Duskwing
    • Polychrome Skeins' damage has been reduced slightly
  • Ironclad
    • Fixed a bug that caused Adjudicator particles to do too much damage
    • Adjudicator particles no longer pierce by default
    • Added additional modifiers to the Adjudicator hammer that provide, e.g., pierce and additional particle generation, among others
  • Forest
    • Add Goblings when a hive dies
    • Goblin hives will now damage players
  • Underground Military Base
    • Added a third boss phase where he moves even faster and moves more frequently
    • Boss now enters Teleport state when he transitions between phases
    • Reduced timers so the Boss will teleport enemies in more frequently and will wait for less time before returning to the play field
  • Many other minor bug fixes and art updates
