StarBreak: Alpha 8

Good afternoon Testers,

Here are today's patch notes:

  • Wildfire
    • New Brigandine Armor: 6 base, 9 max
  • Duskwing
    • Polychrome Skeins now attack multiple times
    • Fixed an issue with jumping not canceling certain attacks
  • Ironclad
    • New Adjudicator Hammer
    • Plating base increased to 8, max stays the same at 11, but is easier to achieve
    • Ironclad can no longer jump out of ground attacks
    • Ironclad speed increased
    • Ironclads will move the shield for a time while performing ducking attacks and will be vulnerable while the shield is moved
  • New Mechanic: Boss Isolation
    • Once the last boss of a zone reaches 50%, that room will no longer be accessible and players entering the boss room will face a fresh encounter
  • Rename "Jump" to "Jump Height"
  • Remove confusing "sub object" text
  • Forest
    • New rare "multi-hive" room can now be found
  • Cave
    • Fixed an issue with ranged natives being buried too long
    • Cave boss staggers release of darters instead of spewing them all at once
  • Underground Military Base
    • Made certain connectors easier to navigate and teleporters in those rooms harder to trigger
    • Boss reveal occurs at 50% health instead of 66% health
  • Many other minor bug fixes and art updates

Good afternoon Testers,

Here are the patch notes for today's update:

  • Mechanics
    • Jumping and landing no longer cancel animations for guns and hammers
    • Aura around player replaces "PLAYER" cursor
    • Distance on chest drops have been increased making it easier to get loot when you don't deal damage to chest dropping monsters
  • Forest
    • Forest mid boss jumpers have separate art/behavior
  • Cave
    • Ranged natives should no longer damage players when buried
    • King Native's shockwave attack should no longer drop down levels of elevation
    • Removed platforms that stick out like ledges
    • Fixed issues with some spore emitters being obscured by decorations
    • Reduced average number of darter hives in the Boss room
    • Boss mouth will release increasing number of darters
    • Boss claws may also release a single darter when they emerge
    • Boss body no longer visible when down
  • Underground Military Base
    • Tank standard attacks should no longer pass over certain ducking shells
    • The Boss can no longer teleport in more than one Heavy at a time
    • Tracking turrets have a more pronounced telegraph and a slightly longer delay between attacks
    • Boss's grenades and mortars do significantly less damage
    • Boss grenades and mortars can no longer take damage
  • Eschaton Station
    • Hoverbot NPC added to lobby
    • Homes should once again be unique
  • Many other minor bug fixes and art updates

Good afternoon Testers,

Here are the patch notes for today's update:

  • New Mechanic: Criticals!
    • We are working on how this will work for all shells, but right now Duskwing's have a small chance to critical on all attacks doing 2.5x damage
  • Forest
    • Complete revamp of the mid-Boss encounter
  • Cave
    • Fixed a bug where Boss segments might not take damage, under certain circumstances
    • Boss Claws will no longer be stun locked if they continue to take damage after "death"
    • Cave Boss geometry has been fixed to prevent soloists from leaving the play area to home out
    • Drip slimes will no show a two-drip telegraph before the damaging attack occurs
    • King Native areas have been addressed, making them more difficult to "cheese"
  • Underground Military Base
    • Increase movement area of the Boss
    • Boss now fires bounding grenades when enraged
    • Heavies have been added to the teleporter mix
  • Eschaton Station
    • Added a training dummy to the top of the shop
  • Many other minor bug fixes and art updates

Good afternoon Testers,

Here are the patch notes for today's update:

  • Merchants!
    • Eschaton Station now has a vendor that will sell 12 different randomly generated items
    • If the vendor doesn't have what you are looking for, come back later and their inventory might be different
    • Purchases require EC and are deducted automatically
  • Forest
    • Make the BombDroper respect ground and walls
    • Fire plants should always have enough room to shoot fireballs
  • Underground Military Base
    • Teleporters now start with 2 deployed, but now only have a maximum of 3 or 5, depending on the size and shape of the room
    • Fixed a bug that sometimes caused a situation where the teleporter would not honor the maximum allowable number
  • Eschaton Station
    • Portals should stay open longer
  • Improve network efficiency
  • Many other minor bug fixes and art updates

Good afternoon Testers,

Here are the patch notes for today's update:

  • Level Progression
    • Shells must defeat the boss in a zone before being able to open a portal to the next zone
    • Shells can still enter any portal that is open (so if you have defeated the Forest boss and open a cave portal, anyone can join you in that instance)
  • Currency
    • Currency now drops in the world and is account-based (remains on-death)
    • Shops will be coming soon, so save up that currency!
  • Forest
    • Add more branches to the forest, including "up" branches to provide additional things to explore
  • Cave
    • The Cave Boss is harder to leave via the Home key
    • New Cave Boss mechanic should help make the encounter more intuitive
  • Underground Military Base
    • The Bouncing Betty mini-boss will not reform if only a few of the mini Bettys are alive
    • The Boss's exit is closed upon entering his lair
    • Tracking turrets should now properly track players
    • Fixed an issue with Troopers not resuming their patrol causing them to stand (and remain) in inconvenient places
    • Snipers now have a limited number of drones they can create at once
    • Drone Shrapnel now has a lifetime
  • Loot
    • Changes to quality, tier mix, and amount of loot at Branch Ends
    • Polychrome Skeins now drop with damage enhancements
  • Many other minor bug fixes and art updates

Good afternoon testers,

Here are the patch notes for today's update:

  • Healing Mechanic/Difficulty Rework
    • Max HP for all shells reduced slightly
    • Armor effectiveness decreased slightly
    • Amount of health received from health boosts increased significantly
    • Branch End chests now drop health boosts and ammo boosts
    • Forest boss's Goblings now occasionally drop health boosts
  • Portals in Eschaton Station now close properly
  • Jump now cancels a shell's attack
  • Drillbats fixes
    • Drillbats no longer do damage while burrowed
    • Drillbats should now correctly interact with surfaces (e.g., hang from ceilings and burrow into floors)
  • Fixed issue with forest not dropping enough loot
  • Removed environmental chests from the military base
  • Many other minor bug fixes and art updates

Good afternoon testers,

Here are the patch notes for today's update:

  • Chest/Loot rework
    • Added a new kind of loot mechanic where certain enemies drop personal loot for everyone within a particular distance of the enemy OR for anyone that does damage to the enemy (although most enemies are still only using the damage requirement for personal loot)
    • Monsters can now drop multiple pieces of loot in the form of a chest that is considered personal loot (will not be seen by other players)
    • Chests in the environment have been removed and replaced with one or more monsters that have a high probability of dropping multiple items
  • Improved responsiveness of the Wildfire attacks
    • Now when you let go of the attack, the Wildfire will stop shooting, this should make jumping out of attacking much easier and more intuitive
  • Cave Boss now occasionally spawns darters that can be defeated for health drops
  • Fixed issue of some enemies not dropping loot
  • Many other minor bug fixes and art updates

In the future we will use this blog to post release notes and other updates about the game.

As of this first release, the game contains the following:
